The Executive Secretary of the National Identification Authority (NIA), Professor Ken Attafuah, has reiterated his outfit's commitment to issuing Ghana Cards to all qualified citizens.
The identification document, since its introduction has been fraught with a lot of controversies, with many Ghanaians decrying their inability to access the Card.
But speaking on NewsFile on Saturday, the NIA boss stated that the Authority has the capacity to serve qualified Ghanaians despite the prevailing challenges.
He therefore assured that all eligible persons across the country will be duly issued with their Ghana Cards accordingly.
"We have the capacity. We have over a thousand functional printers.
"We have people who are trained; who are professionals sitting at home doing nothing at home and anxious to work", he said while touting the competence of the NIA to serve all Ghanaians.
The assurance by the NIA boss comes on the back of renewed conversations about the Electoral Commission's decision to use the Ghana Card as the sole document for the 2024 voters register.
Following this, scores of citizens, including the Minority in Parliament have expressed dissatisfaction with the EC's plans, arguing that many Ghanaians do not have the Card.
But the NIA boss stated that about 17 million cards have already been issued.
Meanhwhile, the Minority says it will resist any attempts by the Electoral Commission to use the Ghana Card as the only source document for compiling the 2024 voters register.
Speaking on Newsfile on Saturday, former Deputy Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Dominic Ayine stressed the Minority's position, adding that even though the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is not against the Ghana Card, it should not be used as the sole prerequisite for the 2024 voters register.
