President of the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG), Kwabena Yeboah, has expressed concern at the slow pace of work on infrastructure as Ghana prepares to host the 2023 African Games next year.
Tomorrow, Wednesday 29th November, marks one hundred days to the competition which starts on March 8 next year.
But crucial aspects of infrastructure in Borteyman and the University of Ghana, earmarked to host the games, remain uncompleted.
Speaking at the induction ceremony of newly-elected executives of SWAG, Kwabena Yeboah called on the Ministry of Finance to make available funds to forestall a looming national embarrassment.
“We're very uncomfortable at the slow pace of development of the infrastructure and we are only a few months away from the commencement of the Games,” he said.
“The African Games is huge; it is the Olympics of Africa. We cannot embarrass ourselves to the rest of the continent.
“We are hoping and appealing to the Ministry of Finance, to the government, to assist the Ministry of Youth and Sports to ensure that the infrastructure, the pace, the rate at which we're developing the infrastructure would be rapid.”
