President John Mahama has disclosed that officials have been questioned over their roles in the 2023 African Games scandal.
He made the revelation on Wednesday night during a briefing on his first 120 days social contract with Ghanaians.
The Games, held in Accra in March 2024, were tainted by allegations of financial mismanagement and potential corruption, with $245 million allegedly spent on the event.
An additional $15 million was reportedly spent on feeding athletes and officials, while $4.5 million was allocated to the games management system and accreditation tags.
“A cornerstone of our commitment to good governance and accountability is tackling corruption and eliminating waste,” President Mahama said.
“I promised to initiate inquiries and forensic audits into several critical matters of public interest.
"This war against corruption continues unabated. A number of officials have been invited and questioned concerning the 13th African Games.”
Earlier in April, former Sports Minister Mustapha Ussif was interrogated by the National Investigation Bureau, though it was unclear if the questioning was related to the African Games expenditure.
