An author and public speaker says Ghana does not have a unified identity.

Akosua Bame Ashiagbor argues that if you ask an average Ghanaian what it means to be Ghanaian, they would not be able to answer convincingly, she says.

The author of Mindset Revolution said the country does not have a belief system that is shared nationally.

"In terms of Ghana, we don't even have a Ghanaian identity. That in itself is driving the nature of what we see. If I ask an average Ghanaian what it means to be Ghanaian, we don't have a value of a belief system is held nationally," she stated.

Akosua Bame's comments come ahead of a public speaking event that seeks to stage a discussion on whether or not Ghana's fourth Republic has delivered. She is one of the keynote speakers.

According to the author, the mindset of the ordinary Ghanaian is that of dependency, a posture engendered by the slavery regime.

She also established that leaders of the country have a sense of entitlement whereas the ordinary citizens are basically dependent.

To change the mindset, education, engagement and more importantly, changing the lived experiences of people would be the solutions.

She added that people in the country live like just inhabitants and not citizens.

Explaining her observation, "what makes a house a home is when people live in it as a family. The difference between living as a family and living as an inhabitant within a house is that you subscribe to a common value system."

People in the country are not living to such a standard because it is not defined at the national level.
