The Krotihene of Sunyani says the Sunyani Traditional Council is not aware of an NPP conference in the Brong Ahafo regional capital.

According to Nana Bofotia Boamponsem, the Krontihene of the Council, the New Patriotic party has not officially informed the council about holding its extra ordinary conference in the region.

“I have met with Omanhene this morning and he says he has not heard from the party. We know that if the NPP has respect for the council, they will come and officially inform us about the congress,” he told Adom News’ Kofi Assan.

All is set for the opposition party's Extraordinary Conference at the Sunyani Sports Stadium, Saturday. The party is set to officailly outdoor its campaign team for the 2016 general election at the congress but it has a hurdle to cross.

The Paramount Chief in Sunyani, Nana Bosoma Asor Nkrawiri in October was criticised by the NPP for promising President John Dramani Mamaha and the NDC 80% votes in the 2016 general election.

The National Executives of the NPP were called to apologise to Nana Bosoma but they failed to do so.

This is believed to have prompted the council’s consideration to stop the NPP from holding its congress in the town as filed in earlier reports.

But Nana Bofotia says it is rather some youth in Sunyani who had threatened to stop the NPP and not the traditional council.

“It is some youth in the town who have threatened to stop the congress. The traditional council has not taken any decision to stop the NPP congress.

He added that “If the NPP however fails to acknowledge the Sunyani Traditional Council, we will say what we have to say to them after their congress.”

Meanwhile police in the region say they are prepared to protect citizens and properties before, during and after the extraordinary conference.

The Public Relations Officer of the Brong-Ahafo Police Command says they have met with some executives of the NPP about their protection plans for the delegates throughout the period of the congress.

“We are expecting about 7,000.00 delegates from other regions. We will provide police escorts for them on the Highways and at various hotels in the Sunyani township,” ASP Christopher Tawiah added.
