Supporters of Kennedy Agyapong are yet to fully analyse the factors that led to his defeat in the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer contest, the Member of Parliament for Nhyiaeso, Dr Stephen Amoah, has said.

Speaking on JoyNews’ Super Morning Show on Monday, February 2, Dr Amoah explained that the immediate focus was not on apportioning blame but on acknowledging the peaceful conduct of the party’s January 31 flagbearer election.

“When the results came in, we haven’t really sat down to analyse what happened. It’s barely a day. I don’t want to pre-empt anything,” he said.

Dr Amoah, speaking from the perspective of Kennedy Agyapong’s campaign, described the contest as one of the most peaceful internal elections he had witnessed, despite the disappointment of defeat.

He noted that in the Nhyiaeso Constituency, supporters of the various aspirants coexisted peacefully before, during and after the polls, a development he said reflected a high level of political maturity within the party.

“What I can say is that the election was very peaceful and very successful. Whatever happened has happened, and as a party, we have won,” he stated.

According to him, the conduct of the contest has enhanced the public image of the New Patriotic Party and demonstrated its readiness for national leadership.

“We have shown a high level of tolerance, peace and preparedness as a fraternity ready to govern. In the history of this country, I haven’t seen an election as peaceful as this,” Dr Amoah added.

While admitting his personal disappointment over the outcome for Kennedy Agyapong, the MP said he was encouraged by the absence of post-election violence or major incidents.

“Of course, I wouldn’t be happy that we lost our candidate, but I am happy that at the end of the day, the party witnessed such a peaceful election. That is my joy,” he said.

The New Patriotic Party held its flagbearer election on January 31 as part of preparations towards the 2028 general elections.
