The newly-elected General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Frimpong Kodua, says it is very necessary to manage the expectations of party faithful in order to avoid the festering of apathy.
According to him, during his campaign tour in the run-up to the National Delegates’ Conference, he discovered that most party sympathizers felt disconnected from the party’s hierarchy and complained of a further disconnection between the party and the government.
He stated that this was largely due to the aspirations of these party sympathisers not being met following the party’s assumption of power.
Speaking on JoyNews’ PM Express, Justin Frimpong Kodua stated that while it is impossible to meet the aspirations of all party sympathisers within a full Presidential tenure, it was important to manage these expectations and communicate hope to them.
This he says would assure these sympathisers of the party’s commitment to caring for them as best as it can.
“Going round, listening to the concern of many party faithful, they felt there was a gap between the grassroots and the party’s hierarchy; some also felt that there was a gap between the party and then the government; and some also felt that there was no accessibility between them and the party hierarchy.
“So those were the major concerns that they had. And definitely, when anyone supports a political party, they have aspirations, they have expectations that ‘should the party win I’m likely to get A B C D’.
“And the truth of the matter is no government can be able to satisfy the needs of everyone within four years or even eight years. So what do you do? You manage those expectations and you give them hope that though you have not gotten anything, there’s hope for you.
“So going round I highlighted on it and they agreed with me,” he said.
