Information reaching Joy Sports reveals Ghana’s Weightlifting team will embark on a month’s residential camping at the Winneba Sports College on August 6.
This is in preparation of an impending Africa Championship in Nigeria this September.
Ahead of the September Championship, the team will engage its Togolese opponents later this month in a dress rehearsal competition ahead of the Africa Championship.
Meanwhile the Ghana Weightlifting Federation (GWF) Director of Communications Charles Osei Asibey believes this is the beginning of tremendous changes and initiatives to happen to the discipline.
“After my appointment in July ,the federation has vowed to promote and develop the sport and eventually make weightlifting the second most active sport in the country by the end of 2014”, he said.
The team which has some of its key lifters with the security services will join the rest in camp on August 6.
Coach Majeti Fetri who is ecstatic with these arrangements has invited the following weightlifters: Albert Abostsi, Prince Nyarko,Seth Fetri, Nii Darko Doodo, Daniel Darko, Nii Takie,Albert Ampomah, Ruth Baffoe and Juliana Aku all from the security services have all been invited to camp.
Ghana had a sole representation in weightlifting in the London 2012 Olympic Games.
