The Minority Caucus is gearing up to return to Parliament following a summons from Speaker Alban Bagbin.
The House had been indefinitely suspended after a contentious Supreme Court decision over the vacant seat dispute, which deepened divisions.
Efforts by Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin to convene the House before the upcoming election were previously dismissed by the Speaker.
In a memo to the Majority on Tuesday, November 26, Speaker Bagbin clarified that Parliament would resume after the elections to address essential matters, ensuring a seamless transition to the 9th Parliament of the Fourth Republic.
However, Speaker Bagbin issued a 14-day notice for Parliament to reconvene on December 16 to resume government business.
NDC MP for South Dayi, Rockson Nelson Dafeamekpor, whose side initially opposed a pre-election return, has now welcomed the decision.
In an interview on JoyNews, he said “We’ve been summoned by Parliament, we would attend upon Parliament on December 16 and do parliamentary business. All other things will be discussed and considered.”
The Majority in Parliament has yet to issue an official response to the Speaker’s latest notice.
