The minority caucus in Parliament has indicated that they will not boycott the ongoing vetting of the seven nominees to sit on the Supreme Court bench.
Speaking to the press shortly before the vetting commenced in Parliament on Monday, 16th June, the Member of Parliament for Okaikwei Central, Patrick Yaw Boamah, stated that the minority is prepared to cooperate with the majority throughout the vetting process.
He said, "We are going to cooperate, we have always been a cooperative minority. We have always raised issues where necessary, and we have always boycotted where necessary, all within the ambit of parliamentary practice, so I have no instruction from the leadership of the caucus that we are going to boycott or do anything untold."
The seven nominees are Justices Sir Dennis Dominic Adjei, Gbiel Simon Suurbaareh, Senyo Dzamefe, Kweku Tawiah Ackah-Boafo, Philip Bright Mensah, Janpere Bartels-Kodwo and Hafisata Ameleboba.
They were nominated in April by President Mahama in accordance with Article 144(2) of the 1992 Constitution.
