The Minister nominee for Defence, Dr Edward Omane Boamah, has announced that his ministry will “rely on Defence Intelligence (DI)” to address cases of impersonation within the Ghana Armed Forces.
According to Dr Boamah, there will be close collaboration between Defence Intelligence and the Ghana Police Service to tackle this issue effectively.
Speaking during his vetting by Parliament’s Appointments Committee on Tuesday, January 28, Dr Boamah stated that improving military-civil relations will be a priority for his ministry.
As part of this effort, he said the ministry plans to enhance systems for receiving feedback from the public.
He explained that citizens who suspect individuals of falsely posing as soldiers would be able to report such cases in real time for swift action.
“When these are addressed, the aftermath of it, the punishment given, legitimately and legally will also be made public,” Dr Boamah stated.
The Defence Minister nominee believes this approach will deter others from engaging in impersonation.
He stressed that by strengthening Defence Intelligence, ensuring police collaboration, maintaining transparency, and making penalties clear to the public, potential offenders will be discouraged from such behaviour.
