The Wenchi Municipal Assembly in the Bono region has donated over 1000 free school uniforms to 10 basic schools within the Municipality.
The donation formed part of government's nationwide free school uniform distribution programme.
In a brief ceremony to present the uniforms to the schools Wenchi Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Dr. Prince Kwakye Afriyie, said "These uniforms will be distributed to students with either tattered uniforms or those who wore house dresses because they had no uniform."

Dr. Afiriyie stated that the distribution of the free school uniforms re-emphasizes the commitment of President Akufo-Addo’s government towards making education attractive and accessible to the vulnerable people in society.
He therefore advised beneficiary pupils to study hard in order to justify the huge investment being made by their parent and the government in them.
"Most people think all needy students are from deprived communities but you see, I was also a needy student in Wenchi town. I studied hard to become a medical doctor, a surgeon before entering politics. So I urge you all to study hard and step into my shoes,” Dr. Afiriyie added.

The MCE encouraged the teachers to effectively educate school children on Covid-19 and guide them to observe the safety protocols religiously to curb the spread of the disease.
Deputy Director of Administration and Finance at the Wenchi Municipal Directorate of the Ghana Education Service, Joseph Yaw Mensah, received the items on behalf of the beneficiary schools and commended Wenchi Municipal Assembly for the gesture.
He appealed to the MCE to institute municipal teachers’ award scheme as a form of motivation for the teaching fraternity in the area.
The beneficiary schools of the free uniform distribution included Akrobi Municipal Assembly (MA) Junior High School (JHS), Droboso MA JHS, Wenchi MA Number 2 A Basic School, Wenchi MA Number.2 B Basic School, Wenchi MA Number 2 C Basic School, Wenchi Abrefah Basic School, Wenchi MA Number 3 Basic School, Nkonsia MA JHS, Wurompo MA Basic School and Nwoase MA Basic School.
