Senior Presidential Aide and Advisor to President John Dramani Mahama, Joyce Bawah Mogtari, has delivered a deeply emotional tribute to the late Defence Minister, Dr. Edward Kofi Omane Boamah.
Dr Boamah perished alongside seven others in the tragic helicopter crash on Wednesday, August 6.
In a moving eulogy titled “An Ode to My Brother, Confidante and Manager Extraordinaire”, Mrs. Mogtari described Dr. Boamah as “faithful, loyal, vibrant, humble and bold”, adding that his untimely death has left an irreplaceable void.
“The hours between 3 a.m. and 7 a.m. will never be the same again for me personally… your presence is painfully missed,” she wrote.
Mrs. Mogtari recalled their 25-year friendship, which began through a political introduction and evolved into a deep bond of trust, partnership, and shared activism.
She spoke of their countless travels, private jokes, and strategic work together — from political campaigns to family decisions. “You were my coach, advisor and constant guide… the only truly unapologetically consistent politician,” she noted, crediting Dr. Boamah for playing a pivotal role in securing the NDC’s historic victories in 2020 and 2024.
She described him as a man who “stood firm even when many would falter” and whose “unrelenting sacrifices” were instrumental to President Mahama’s political successes.
The tribute was also deeply personal, filled with vivid anecdotes of moments they shared — from Dr. Boamah’s insistence on buying her hotel rooms “just so I could use the bathroom” to his playful banter over meals and his trademark antibacterial handkerchiefs.
She remembered how he offered counsel on legal matters, political strategy, and even parenting decisions.
“Our children were in school together for years… you planned to take two weeks off to accompany Ekua to college,” she recalled, lamenting that those plans will now never come to pass.
In reflecting on their political journey, Mrs. Mogtari recounted their strategic meetings in London, their shared mantra of “Organise, don’t agonise,” and his unwavering belief in methodical preparation for political comebacks.
She said Dr. Boamah had an “unalloyed love, work ethic, loyalty, courage and pride” that inspired all who worked with him.
“You silenced and confounded your fiercest critics in ways words cannot express,” she wrote, insisting that no tribute could truly capture his legacy.
Concluding her eulogy, Mrs. Mogtari painted a picture of enduring grief, describing the silence in their once-lively chat box since his passing and her longing for his daily responses.
“It is 3 a.m., the chat box is silent; no one has commented since your untimely departure,” she lamented.
Ending with heartfelt poetry, she bid him farewell: “Rest now, dear friend, your journey’s done… I’ll cherish every moment we shared — a precious find. Farewell, my dear friend, Dr. Edward Kofi Omane Boamah! You will be missed!”
