Ghanaian youth have been asked to make conscious efforts to become abreast of the 1992 Constitution.
Mr. Emmanuel Victor Boadu, Senior Field Officer at the Asante Akim South District Office of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), said this would help inject sanity and discipline into society.
He was interacting with pupils and teachers of the Juaso Roman Catholic Junior High School on Monday as part of NCCE’s efforts at reviving dormant civic clubs in various schools in the district.
Mr Boadu said with better understanding of the constitution, the youth would become patriotic and be able to contribute to good governance.
He said the formation of clubs in schools and communities sought to educate the citizenry on the Constitution and empower them to contribute to the discussion on topical issues.
Mr. Boadu said that the success of the nation’s multi-party democracy would depend on the contribution of all Ghanaians.
Miss Alice Amy Darlin, Headmistress of the school, enjoined members of the club to be committed to its activities to enable them to broaden their scope of knowledge on national issues.
She appealed to the NCCE to make available copies of the abridged version of the constitution to the club to enable members to study it.
