A coalition of youth groups in the Northern Region has called for the immediate suspension of the Acting CEO of the Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH), Dr Kareem Mumuni.
This comes after the groups raised concerns about malfunctioning of some major equipment at the Hospital.
According to them, equipment at the radiology and laboratory department such as ultrasound machines, computerised tomography scan, X-Ray machines and others have all broken down.
Due to this, leaving patients to seek these dire services in private health facilities before they are attended to at the Regional Hospital.
Addressing the media Monday, Convener of the coalition, Osman Abdul Mumin attributed the current predicament of the Hospital to the Acting CEO.
He described Dr Mumuni as incompetent saying the Acting CEO has exhibited nothing but poor leadership management since his appointment.
Abdul Mumin alleged that the 24-hour laboratory centre which was established in 2018 to provide emergency services has been closed down since TTH currently is unable to run most of the laboratory investigations.
He also highlighted the stress patients, particularly, pregnant women have to endure due to the unavailability of a lift.
“Medical officers look on helplessly on emergency cases because there is lack of basic tools such as cotton, gloves, Vaseline gauze and other essential consumables to work with,” he said.
According to Mr Mumin, TTH came last in all hospitals in the Northern Region in a recent midyear review.
He quizzed, “If a referral hospital that should serve all the district, policlinic, CHPS ranked last what is the fate of all patients in the region?”
The group is, therefore, calling for an immediate suspension of the Acting CEO and appealed to government to reinstate the suspended CEO Dr David Kolbilla.
Meanwhile, the Public Relations Officer of the Tamale Teaching Hospital Mohammed Misbao said the management was in a meeting and would respond to the issues at the appropriate time.
