Former Attorney General in the John Agyekum Kufuor administration, Papa Owusu Ankomah has said the current high unemployment facing the country is the biggest threat to the security of the nation.
According to him, he is not happy that present and successive governments have failed to implement programmes to address this challenge.
Mr. Owusu Ankomah who also served as Education Minister and now Member of Parliament (MP) for Sekondi said failure to address this immediately would have serious repurcussion for the country.
The Sekondi MP noted that, "Once you have a country that doesn't have too many opportunities for people, politicians will be resented because it's our responsibility to create opportunity for young people. So for me the greatest threat to our democracy for me now is unemployment."
He lamented that as a country, "If you have an average of 60% of tertiary graduates being unemployed, as leaders we must create opportunities for our people. People want to work. It is a nation that wastes about 60% of its working population."
Papa Owusu Ankomah further lamented that, "young people who make good grades but can't get access to university education, become frustrated," saying that, "we owe this country a duty to create a situation where there will be more opportunities."
