Football fans in Zambia are reported to be in a buoyant mood after FIFA ruled a protest against Sudan in their favour for the ongoing 2014 World Cup qualifiers.
The world’s football governing body stripped Sudan of its 2-0 win against Zambia in a 2014 World Cup qualifier on June 2 and in turn handed Zambia 3goals and 3 points.
The African Champions protested that Ali played despite receiving yellow cards in previous competitive matches, including when Zambia beat Sudan in an Africa Cup of Nations quarter-final in February.
Fifa after their investigations found Sudan guilty and has handed all three points to Zambia and have been fined US$6,430.
The disciplinary committee of football's world governing body ruled that Saif Ali should not have played in the 2 June game in Khartoum.
Zambia now leads Group D with six points from two matches, and Sudan falls to third place with one point.
Ghana are in second place with three points while Lesotho are bottom with a single point.
Zambia will play Lesotho on 7 June 2013 in their next qualifier.
