He dreams of becoming a legal luminary but a few days ago that dream appeared shattered until Nhyira FM’s Obra magazine programme, hosted by Mama Efe, intervened.
Fifteen year old Emmanuel Owusu completed Trede Roman Catholic Junior High School in the Ashanti Region.
He made aggregate 14 in the 2013 Basic Education Certificate Examination, and placed at Toase Senior High School.
Like many other Ghanaian children, Emmanuel’s fate hangs in the balance because his parents are financially incapable of paying even the lowest admission one can imagine in today’s Ghana.
His father opted to have him learn a trade as an auto mechanic (call it fitter) but when Emma compares his BECE results to those of his colleagues, he decided to look beyond his parent’s suggestion.
He set out to look for help with little or no idea where it would come from.
‘Where there is a will’, they say, ‘there is always a way’.
Emma’s luck shined when walked boldly into the offices of Multimedia Group in Kumasi.
He sat at the reception for hours, waiting for OBRA host, Mama Efe. When Emma finally met her and put his case across, Kumasi’s ‘Opera Winfery’ set her machinery in motion.
She got Atwima-Nwbiagya District Chief Executive, Nana Asare Bediako, to pay the boy’s admission fees. She also took care of items needed to take the boy school.
At a ceremony at which Emma received the education materials, Mama Efe advised him to justify the investment made in him.
Emma also pledged to be disciplined and hardworking to realize his dream of becoming a judge.
His mother, Charity Appiah, who accompanied him to Nhyira FM, was full of praise for their benefactors.
