Rescue personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) Headquarters responded to a fatal road traffic accident on the N1 Highway near the Achimota footbridge on Monday, February 23.
Firefighters said they received a distress call at 7:58 p.m., with the rescue team arriving at the location at 8:14 p.m.
The collision involved a Kia motor truck (GG 1304-18), a Sprinter bus (GX 8325-13), and a Volvo trailer (GT 7856-20).
Fire officers worked to extricate trapped victims and administered immediate emergency assistance. Out of 21 casualties recorded, two individuals were pronounced dead at the scene, while 19 others were transported to Achimota Hospital and the 37 Military Hospital for medical treatment.

In collaboration with other emergency agencies, the GNFS secured the accident site, prevented further incidents, and cleared the road to restore normal traffic flow.

Authorities say investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the crash.

The GNFS conveyed its condolences to the families of the deceased and wished the injured a speedy recovery.

The GNFS also appealed to motorists to adhere strictly to traffic regulations and prioritise road safety at all times.
