Two suspects have been arrested by the Kwabenya police for attempting to defraud a lady.
Mohammed Surag, 29, and Yaw Darko, 26, allegedly engaged the woman under the pretence of renting a house to her.
The lady reported that she saw a phone number on an online trading platform.
The suspect claimed to be an Estate agent with some apartment pictures displayed for rent after which she followed through with further inquiry.
On September 18, both suspects who claimed to be landlord and agent respectively led her to East Legon and showed her an apartment which they said belonged to them.
She was told it was going for ¢1,000 per month for two years.
The lady after negotiations gave them cheque with a face value of ¢12,000 for them to cash.
The suspects presented the cheque to the bank on the same day but they were told that the said amount can only be transferred to their account and not handed to them in cash.
They then called the complainant that they owed their banks so they cannot transfer the money into their bank accounts. They, therefore, requested for physical cash instead.
The lady suspected them to be fraudsters and informed police leading to their arrest.
The suspects admitted to the offence in their respective caution statements and are in custody assisting in the investigation.
The police are urging the public to help identify them by going to the Kwabenya police station if they have fallen victims to the two fraudsters.
