The Ghana Association of Banks insists it is safe to save with its financial institutions despite a recent fraud report by staff raising serious concerns.
Speaking on The Probe on Joy News, the CEO of the Association, John Awuah said citizens sometimes are negligent, especially with regard to keeping personal information and passwords.

He shared some advice on how customers can keep their funds safe.
“There are people as soon as you give them their pin code they pick their diaries and write the code on the first page, we don’t keep these diaries wherever we go.”
“Sometimes we leave them on our desk, sometimes we go to church and we leave it on the pew, sometimes we go for a meeting we leave them on the seat, somebody else may have access to this diary.”
“They open and they see a pin code in it and the next thing the person targets is how they can get access to your debit or credit card,” he said.
He mentioned that fraudsters are very observant and smart and hence sensitized customers on changing trends as well as the utilisation of technology.
“Sometimes we leave our wallets at random places, sometimes you hang them somewhere, sometimes we leave it in our car, you go to the washing bay and you can even leave it there, fraudsters have time,” he indicated.
The Bank of Ghana meanwhile says it will continue to implement measures to protect the financial sector. Head of Financial Stability, Dr Joseph France assured customers.

“They’re safe, very safe, if you look at the measures we have put in place, we want to protect the resilience of the customer, risks that are associated with this.”
“But more importantly to improve the efficacy of the stability of the financial system, that is very important to us.”
“Because when it’s all said and done, when we all come together to affect the stability, it affects everything in the financial system, that is why we do all this, we spend so much as a bank to sensitise the public,” he said.
