Ghana’s music scene is set to explode with yet another interesting collaboration which has just started.
Over the weekend 2 Face Idibia, the Nigerian of “African Queen” fame was in the country to do a music video with V I P.
The shooting which was done in various locations was to promote the song, “My Love” which is VIP’s song featuring 2 Face. Incidentally 2 Face also has it on his new album “Grass to Grace”. He also did a video of one of his songs, “If Love is a Crime”, which talks about a respectful girl who will do everything for her love.
Interacting with the managers and producers of 2 Face and VIP, Kenny Ogungbe (Kennis Music) and Isaac Abeidu-Aidoo (Goodies Music), at Next Door Beach Resort, one of the locations for the videos, they said it has been the desire of the pair to put together the show to promote African music.
They said they have always wanted this collaboration and joint shooting and that they have been working it out for a while now.
As to why they decided to do the shooting here in Ghana 2 Face explained ‘I love Ghana, it’s peaceful and I feel ok being here. Kennis Music who has been with 2 Face for the past 10 years said he sees a great potential in his boy. ‘The boy is respectful, calm and ready to learn hence he shall go places’ he said.
“Ghanaian Hiplife has come a long way. We need to penetrate into the international market. To succeed, we must do more of these collaborations. With VIP’s entrance into such collaborations, I hope it will serve as a lot of purpose” Goodies said.
2 Face who started his music career with “Plantation Boys”, has risen through the ranks to become one of the most sought after musicians in Africa and on the International scene.
His song ‘African Queen’ won the song of the decade award in Nigeria last year. He also won the KORA best song in 2005. He’s won several awards in Nigeria and internationally.
VIP has also carved a niche for themselves since coming into the music industry. They have won several awards locally as well as a KORA award. In Nigeria the group has won two awards – Best African Artistes in succession.
“It is for these reasons that we think if the two – 2 Face and VIP – come together they are going to take the stage by storm”.
Goodies said. He went on to say that though Nigeria has a big market; it is a market yet to be explored by musicians. His idea was that Africans can make their own music and sell them if they collaborate effectively.
“My Love” a song of mid – tempo was sang mainly in English with a bit of Twi in the rap. The blend of the voices was just perfect to match the tempo.
In an interview, 2 Face hinted that music was not just a hit and run affair, “it is real business. One needs to take his time and pray for God’s guidance to make it. Rushing into it could be the most dangerous mistake ever one might commit”, he said.
He advised the up and coming youth who have the talent to educate themselves more than they think they know to help them become successful in their trade. Watch out for the videos for there is more to it.
