Organizers of the annual African Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) are calling for entries for the 2013 edition of the awards. The awards, one of the most prestigious African film awards, recognize the excellence of professionals in the African film industry, including directors, actors, and writers. It is aimed at honouring and promoting excellence in the African movie industry as well as uniting the African continent through arts and culture. Organizers are calling for feature length films, short and documentary entries for its 2013 edition of the awards to be held on April 14 in Nigeria. Next year’s awards will be under the theme: ‘Africa-One-Africa without borders the integration cinematically.’ Eligible for the 2013 awards are films produced, premiered or released between December 2011 and November 2012 while features may not exceed 120 minutes and shorts should not be longer than 40 minutes, a statement by AMAA said. The deadline for submissions is 30 December 2012. Peace Anyiam-Osigwe, founder and Academy CEO of the awards said in the statement, “There is this great awareness of the possibilities in Africa. This has been an exciting year for African cinema as many big budget productions have been on going on the continent and distribution becoming more accessible to African films.” The award presentation is attended by numerous international media representatives, Hollywood celebrities, Nigerian politicians, journalists, and actresses and actors from all across Africa. Ghanaian actor, Majid Michel was adjudged Best Actor at the 2012 edition of the awards which was held in Lagos, Nigeria in April this year.
