Sports Minister Mustapha Ussif has retained his seat as the Member of Parliament for the Yagaba/Kubori Constituency following the end of the 2024 general election on Saturday, December 7.
Ussif reclaimed his seat on the ticket of the NPP in 2020 and will continue to serve the constituency after winning the 2024 elections.
However, his deputy Evans Bobie Opoku, lost his re-election bid in the Asunafo North Constituency in the Ahafo Region. Opoku first won the seat during the 2020 general elections but has now lost his seat to the National Democratic Congress' Mohammed Haruna.
Here is a list of some of the sports bigwigs involved in this year's election and how they fared.
Haruna Iddrisu
Karela United bankroller Haruna Iddrisu has also retained his seat as the MP for the Tamale South Constituency.
Haruna has been at the helm of the constituency since 2004 with his recent win expected to be his sixth term in charge.
Ignatius Baffour Awuah
Nsoatreman Owner, Ignatius Baffour Awuah, suffered casualty in this year's elections after losing to NDC's Millicent Yeboah Amankwah.
The Minister of Employment and Labour Relations will not be returning to Parliament an unsuccessful attempt for re-election in the Sunyani West constituency.
Frederick Acheampong
Having won during the NPP's primaries, Ghana Football Association's Executive Council Member, Frederick Acheampong’s bid to enter Parliament in the Ahafo Ano South East constituency was unsuccessful.
Acheampong fell to the NDC's Yakubu Mohammed
Adams Abdul-Salam
The younger brother of New Edubiase FC owner, Abdul Salam Yakubu, whose name is Adams Abdul-Salam, retained his seat for the NDC in the New Edubiase Constituency in the Ashanti Region.
John Peter Amewu
The bankroller of Division One League side, Hohoe United, John Peter Amewu was also unseated in the Hohoe constituency.
The Minister for Railways Development failed to hold onto his seat as he was beaten by the NDC candidate, Thomas Worlanyo.
Pius Enam Hadzide
Former deputy Sports Minister and current Chief Executive Officer of the National Youth Authority, Pius Enam Hadzide has also failed in his bid to secure a seat for the NPP in the Asuogyaman constituency.
Edwin Nii Lante Vanderpuye
Ni Lante Vanderpuye, who has been tipped to return to office as the Sports Minister in the next administration, will not return to Parliament after giving up his seat and not contesting for the NDC primaries.
Nii Ashie Kotey will now represent the constituency in parliament after victory in this year's elections.
