Members of the Scout & Guide Fellowship, Ghana (SGFG) have expressed their intention and commitment to walk from the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi, in the Ashanti region, to the Ga Mantse Palace in the Greater Accra region as part of their peace campaign for the upcoming December elections.
Addressing a news conference in Accra on Tuesday, October 29, 2024, the President of the SGFG, Dr. Andrew Botchwey, explained that the Peace Walk, which is set to last for seven days, will take place from November 21 to 29.
He stated that the walk has been necessitated by their quest to contribute to peacebuilding and unity in the country.
“As Scouts and Guides, we uphold values of respect, harmony, and service. With Peace Gathering 2024, we call on every Ghanaian to put aside differences, celebrate our shared identity, and promote peace when it matters most,” Dr. Botchwey emphasized.
He added that this year's theme, “A Call to Unity: Fly the Flag for Peace," embodies their message, stressing the need for Ghanaians to join them in the Kumasi to Accra Peace Walk.
“This is more than a walk; it is a call for unity and national pride, celebrating what it means to be Ghanaian,” the President stressed.
A Call to Action: Fly the Ghana Flag
He also called on all Ghanaians to display the national flag at home, in cars, in shops, and throughout the communities, maintaining that this simple act of flying the flag is a commitment to our nation and each other, and a pledge to peace and unity.
“It’s a powerful symbol that each of us can embrace,” he noted. The President later called on politicians to eschew violence and embrace peaceful dialogue while also urging community leaders to foster harmony and inclusiveness.
