A joint taskforce made up of the Ghana Police Service and the Ghana Immigration Service has arrested 28 foreigners and some landlords in the Amansie West District of the Ashanti Region for unlawfully entering the country without proper documentation.
The suspects were arrested at their residences at Pakyi No.1 and Pakyi No.2 during the operation.
The District Chief Executive for Amansie West, Prince Manu Morris, said the landlords were arrested for renting out their apartments to foreigners without the knowledge or approval of the district assembly.
He cautioned landlords against renting accommodation to undocumented immigrants, stressing that such actions contravene Ghana’s laws.
“Landlords must verify the status of tenants before renting out their properties. Renting to undocumented immigrants is against the laws of Ghana,” he stated.
Mr Morris added that the Amansie West District Assembly, in collaboration with the Immigration Service, will not tolerate foreigners who unlawfully enter the country and settle in the district.
According to him, many of the suspects are believed to be involved in illegal mining, commonly known as Galamsey, and other unlawful activities that tarnish the image of Manso and its surrounding communities.
“These people are mostly engaged in galamsey and other illegal activities which tarnish the name of Manso and its enclave. The operation does not end today; it will continue,” he added.
This is the second operation carried out by the Amansie West District Assembly and the Ghana Immigration Service aimed at cracking down on undocumented immigrants in the area.
