At least nine persons have been arrested in connection with the violence that occurred on Sunday in the Yagaba Kubori Constituency of the North East Region of Ghana.
Crime Officer for the region, Chief Supt. Justice Dugah, who confirmed this to JoyNews said the nine are being processed to be put before court Monday.
The arrest follows a clash that left many persons injured and properties destroyed in the Constituency.
Police in the region said it occurred while some NDC supporters were embarking on a campaign in the Constituency.
Speaking on JoyNews' 'The Probe' on Sunday, Deputy Chief of Police in the area said NPP supporters were alleged to have shot into the vehicle of incumbent MP, Amadu Tanko when he went to campaign in one of the communities.
This, DCOP Kwadwo Antwi said, enraged the NDC supporters who stormed the residence of the NPP Parliamentary Candidate, Mustapha Usif, to vandalise his property.
He revealed that they destroyed Mr Usif's car among other things. They also headed to the offices of a pro-NPP radio station and damaged some of their property on the premises as well.
Though the identities of the arrested nine are yet to be put in public, Supt. Dugah says they will be prosecuted on various charges including "attempted murder, unlawful possession of arms, conspiracy, causing damage, etc."
