Actor John Dumelo and comedian DKB have called for tighter security on the University of Ghana campus.
The two entertainment personalities urged the administration of the university and National Security to strengthen security to protect students.
Their call comes in the wake of a gory attack on Daniel Osei, a student of the university on Saturday.
The student was reportedly attacked along the road leading from Pentagon to the Evandy hostel which is situated on the university campus.
Daniel Osei, who sustained several cutlass wounds, is currently receiving treatment at the 37 Military Hospital in Accra.
John Dumelo and DKB added their voice to concerns by Ghanaians and aggrieved students who are urging the school officials and National Security to intensify security in the school using the hashtag #makeUGasafeplaceagain on Twitter to protest.
John Dumelo said on Twitter: “The recent attacks on students of the University of Ghana by armed thieves is sad and needs to be addressed immediately. I’m hoping that the SRC, campus security and possibly national security will handle this issue with the much-needed attention.”
“The road from pent to Evandy needs to be lighted up, the bushes cleared and also security patrols beefed up. I got In touch with friends close to Osei this morning and he’s doing ok. We thank God. Every life on Legon campus must be protected. #keeplegonsafe,” he added.
DKB in his reaction to the attack said: “Pay high school fees, pay high hostel fees and end up like this? University of Ghana you need to do more to improve your security. Such crimes need darkness to operate, can't you invest in illuminating the dark places with the toll monies? 🤷â™â€šĂŻÂ¸ÂŹ #LegonMustStopArmedRobbersNow ”
The police say they have picked up a suspect in connection with the attack.
Director of Operations for the Greater Accra Police, ACP Kwesi Ofori told Joy News they have taken over investigations and are working to establish if there are other suspects on the run.
