The removal of the Tema Manhean Secondary Technical School from a list of schools to be upgraded has raise concern among interest groups in Tema Manhean.
Opinion leaders, parents, students and staff claim the opportunity has rather gone to better-endowed Tema Secondary School. A petition by the Secretary of PTA, Samuel Dogbe, said no official explanation has been given for the change.
It said the Tema Secondary School cannot be counted among deprived schools saying the unfair treatment could demoralize staff of the Manhean School.
An official of the Projects Implementation Unit of the Ministry of education, Science and Sports confirmed the change but said neither the Director of Education nor the Education oversight committee has provided any reasons.
The headmaster, Joseph Amuah said the only classroom block at the school has cracks in the walls and staircase. He said the teaching staff have threatened to abandon classes if repairs are not carried out.
Mr. Amuah said officials from the Tema Municipal Assembly have inspected the building seven times but nothing has been done to rectify the problem.
