A public auction scheduled for tomorrow, to sell off properties belonging to the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has been put on hold, JOY NEWS can confirm.
The AMA owes a GHC33 million debt for which Van Mart Auctioneers had been authorized to sell off properties belonging to the assembly to defray the judgment debt.
It is however, unclear what decision went into putting the auction on hold. The AMA boss has been tightlipped on the matter.
Properties of the Assembly set to be affected by the auction included various bungalows, offices and the huge No. 4, Seventh Avenue residence of the Accra Mayor, Dr. Alfred Oko Vanderpuye.
Eviction notices signed by one Jacobus Vanderpuye of VanSmart Auctioneers were pasted on the main entrance of the Mayor's official residence with checks further revealing that other bungalows of AMA officials, having similar eviction notices.
