Officials of the West Africa Gas Pipeline Company (WAPCo) say the pipeline is set to operate at full capacity to transport to Ghana, all the contractual volumes of 120 million cubic feet of gas per day, if it becomes available.
" It's been fixed for some few weeks ago and Gas has been flowing from Nigeria to the VRA plant in Aboadze as well as Sunu Asogli", Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gas Company, Dr. George Sipa Yankey intimated.
Ghana had a major energy deficit from thermal energy as a result of no access to gas, when the pipeline was destroyed off the coast of Togo.
But, the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gas Company, told Joy News on Thursday that the pipeline will serve half the purpose since there is a shortfall in the volume of gas needed from Nigeria.
He has however, indicated that the Ghana Gas Company has stepped up efforts to complete Ghana's own gas project at Atuabo by April next year in order to meet the local gas needed for thermal energy.
According to him, instead of VRA and Suno Asogli power plant being provided with the needed 120 million cubic meters of gas, they ended up providing 60 to 80 cubic meters and thereby creating a shortfall in the provision of gas for the provision of electricity power.
