President Akufo-Addo has urged Regulatory bodies such as the Bank of Ghana (BoG) to see to the effective supervision of entities under their jurisdiction.
Speaking at the National Conference on the Implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area, President Akufo-Addo asked the regulatory bodies to be up and doing in order to promote discipline in both the public and private sectors.
He urged captains of industries to take advantage of the opportunities that AFTCA presents.
Ghana, was last month chosen by the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the AU to host the Secretariat of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
The three day National Conference brings together key stakeholders in Ghana to discuss national strategies to harness the benefits of the AFCFTA.
Participants include Senior Policy Makers, Parliamentarians, the Business Community, Academia, Representatives of Civil Society Organizations, Development Partners and the Media.
AfCFTA the world’s largest free trade area since the formation of the World Trade Organisation, will cover a market size of one point two billion people, with a combined GDP of two point five trillion dollars.
Fifty-four (54) Member States of the African Union have signed up to the Agreement. President Akufo-Addo was grateful to former Presidents Rawlings and Kufuor, Otumfuor Osei Tutu for taking up lead roles in campaigning to host the secretariat of AfCFTA.
He articulated his vision for Ghana beyond aid.
The President asked the regulatory bodies such as the Bank of Ghana to step up their supervisory roles.
Minister of Trade and Industry, Alan Kyeremanteng said creating a single market for Africa will increase intra African Trade.
