The Police administration has issued a stern warning to its personnel that it would not shield anyone found culpable of any criminal activities.
The warning follows recent arrests and reports in the media of some police officers caught either stealing or extorting monies from people. Only yesterday four police officers including a female, were arrested for extorting money from some two ladies around Legon, a suburb of Accra.
Speaking to Joy News' Seth Kwame Boateng, Thursday, Police Director-General in-charge of Public Affairs, DCOP David Ampah Benin said the administration will not look on while personnel of the service tarnish its good reputation.
"Any policeman, who misconducts himself would not be shielded, when he is caught; he will be [punished and dismissed from the service], when it is criminal".
Asked how the police service intends to deal with situations where some police personnel extort from people taking money from ATMs, DCOP David Ampah Benin noted that the service has put stringent measures in place to dissuade police officers from engaging in such criminal misconduct.
He rejected suggestions that the training given police officers at the police training schools is not good enough, stressing that trainees receive the highest quality of training.
