The Ghana Education Service (GES) has been called upon to ensure that it posted newly-trained teachers to the Districts Assemblies that sponsored them. Mr Francis K. Dorpernyoh, District Chief Executive of Adansi East, who made the call at New Edubiase at the weekend, expressed disappointment that some newly-trained teachers had blatantly flouted conditions under a policy which enjoined District Assemblies to sponsor teacher trainees, who after the completion of their courses would be posted to serve in the respective Districts. Mr Dorpernyoh, who was speaking to the GNA in an interview, said the policy implemented some years back to address the problem of teaching staff shortages in some deprived districts, had not been able to achieve its objectives. Quoting figures to substantiate his claim, he said only 54 out of the 161 trained teachers sponsored by the District had been posted to serve there and observed that such a trend, which constituted a breach of contract, was a big disincentive to the affected Districts. Mr Dorpernyoh said District Assemblies might also consider legal action against perpetrators to ensure compliance with the policy. Source: GNA
