The transcontinental program will culturally immerse African Americans in the African countries where they traced their roots using DNA.
The 2020 inaugural host countries include Ghana, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Burkina Faso, Senegal and Cameroon with additional countries joining each year.
During the event, AfricanAncestry.com will unveil details on the first-of-its-kind initiative for Americans and will be joined by participating African Embassies, business leaders and community groups among others.
“Ghana is the leader and original gateway through the Year of Return so launching here was a natural fit,” said Diallo Sumbry, Director of Partnerships for African Ancestry,
Dr Gina Paige, co-founder and president of African Ancestry, Inc.
The Adinkra Group CEO and Ghana’s Tourism Ambassador.
“I was extremely passionate about helping to create Ghana’s Year of Return, and I’m just as passionate about keeping the movement going and delivering the transformative experience to other African nations.”
The AAFR are all-inclusive, curated homeland journeys for people who have traced their maternal and/or paternal ancestry using AfricanAncestry.com and are ready to return to their African country of origin.
Beyond the average tour, AAFRs provide in-depth, authentic immersion customized to their African ethnic group and country.
“We are more than a DNA test,” said Dr Gina Paige, co-founder and president of African Ancestry, Inc. “The launch of AAFRs enhances the AfricanAncestry.com experience by providing a platform for expanded global Diaspora connections.”
