The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Unique Trust Financial Services Limited, Mr. Prince Kofi Amoabeng, has stressed the need for Ghanaians to challenge government on some of its policies, in order to move the nation forward.
He noted that for a nation to develop, its citizens must have a say concerning government policies, and the right to reject or accept some of them.
Mr. Amoabeng, who is also an old student of Adisadel College, said this last Saturday during the 98th Anniversary celebration of the Adisadel College in Cape Coast.
This year's anniversary, which was under the theme "Academic excellence through Discipline," was sponsored by the 1983 Year Group of the school.
He observed that it was about time Ghanaians became realistic, indicating that the general view held that the country was developing, was not true, although there had been improvement at the Gross Domestic Products (GDP) level.
Amoabeng noted that since the world was becoming a global market, the country's economic performance should be compared to that of the international market, in order to promote healthy challenges for economic growth and development.
He urged the school authorities not to be complacent, but strive hard to achieve more academic laurels.
The Vice President, Alhaji Aliu Mahama, who was the Special Guest of Honour, urged the students to be disciplined so as to protect the freedom of the nation, as stipulated in President John Agyekum Kufuor's last Independence Day address.
He urged the students to eschew all forms of vices, and sexual malpractices, to avoid catching the dreadful HIV/AIDS virus.
Alhaji Aliu implored parents to assist teachers to shape their wards in school, by first instilling discipline in them at home.
He pledged to deliver a new bus from the GETFund to the school, and also assured the staff of a new bungalow.
He donated GHc5,000 towards the school's centenary project.
The school in return, conferred a Santaclausian honour on him, to show appreciation for his gesture.
The Headmaster of the school, Mr. Herbert Kwesi Krufi Graham, noted that although discipline on the part of the students was improving, parents needed to co-operate with the school authorities in the shaping of their wards, into becoming responsible citizens.
He lamented that most students were dismissed due to bad behaviour, stressing that parents of those dismissed students were aware, and called on all and sundry to combat the canker.
