The Volta Sector of Teacher Trainees Association of Ghana (TTAG) has appealed to the Ministries of Finance and Education, Science and Sports to review upwards the allowances of trainees to march the rising academic expenditure.
The Association further called for improvement in the conditions of service of teachers for effective service delivery at all levels of education.
These were contained in a resolution signed by Mr Nelson Cudjoe Kuagbedzi and Mr Pope Yao Yevoo, President and Coordinator respectively of TTAG at the close of its two-day 17th Annual General Assembly/Leadership seminar at Hohoe.
The resolution called on government and the Institute of Education, University of Cape Coast (UCC) to come out with relevant textbooks on specialists programmes re-introduced into the Teacher Training Institutions.
It also urged UCC to be consistent in the way it sets questions, which must correspond to the course outlines and eliminate bottlenecks to the expeditious release of semester examination results.
The Teacher Training Division (TED), PRINCOF, UCC and other stakeholders have also been asked to show clarity concerning the socio-academic status of training colleges as tertiary institutions.
While commending government for its resolve to construct libraries and science laboratories for the teacher training colleges, the resolution called for speedy action on furnishing and stocking of those facilities for utmost benefit to the trainees.
