The courage of a lecturer at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in defying a threat to his life, led to the arrest of an armed student of the university who bad stolen a laptop computer and a mobile phone from his office.
Francis Eshun, the lecturer, acting on a description of the thief by his wife who had seen the thief enter the office, traced him to the commercial area of the university and confronted him.
The student, Kingsley Sarfo Adu, 23, threatened to shoot Mr Eshun but people who were attracted to the scene, helped to arrest him.
In the end, the stolen computer and mobile phone were recovered, but not the gun which Adu was said to have thrown away before he was arrested.
A source at the University Police Station confirming the incident, told the Times that a quantity of leaves suspected to be Indian hemp and some tablets were found on Adu, a final-year student of Integrated Rural Arts.
The source said the suspect has been transferred to the Regional Police Headquarters for further investigations.
The Deputy Registrar of the University, Ben Andoh, said the incident took place at about 7.30 p.m. on Friday when Mr Eshun, a Communications Design lecturer, was at a meeting elsewhere on campus.
Mr Eshun left the meeting immediately his wife called to inform him about the intruder.
