The Agome, Dzebeto and Dzebenu communities in the South-Tongu District, have withdrawn their children from the 40-year old Tadze Primary and Junior High Schools following disagreements over the school’s location.
This has resulted in a drastic reduction in the schools’ enrolment from 400 to 72 pupils and students.
Sources at the schools told the Ghana News Agency that, the situation was compelling landlords in the aggrieved communities to eject teacher-tenants from their houses, leading to some teachers seeking transfers from the school.
Ms Celine Kuto, South-Tongu District Director of Education said a at present a suitable site for the school location has been identified but added that lack of funds has made it difficult to put up the building.
She, however, denied the alleged ejection of teachers by landlords and said it was rather an issue of lack of interest in teaching in the schools.
She urged teachers to work hard wherever they found themselves.
