So close, but a long way to go! That’s probably what the Idols Top 4 contestants will be thinking as the glittering Idols draws ever closer – with 2 more contestants due to exit the show before that big night! African audiences decide who stays and who goes and on M-Net on Monday July 7, Zimbabwe’s Ammara ended her Idols journey when she received the least audience votes. Idols Mentor Kawesa Richard had previously singled out Nicollette as the weakest performer, from her performances the night before – an opinion shared by judges Angela Angwenyi, Scar and TK Siyandi. When host Lebo Mzimbi asked Nicolette how she felt about the unanimous verdict, she was philosophical about her chances and trusted Africa to vote with their hearts. Then lights went down, the music went up – and Lebo got down to the business of announcing this week’s results, as DStv audiences across Africa waited for the news. Zimbabwe’s Eric was the first contestant to be sent through to the Top 4 and he was soon followed by Adiona. Zambia’s Trinah was the third to be sent to the safe seats, leaving Nicollette and Ammara as the two contestants up for elimination. After a tense wait, with Nicollette surely dreading that the judges’ predictions had come back to haunt her, Lebo dropped the bombshell that it was in fact Zimbabwe’s Ammara who would be packing her bags this week. Nicollette seemed shocked that it wasn’t her name that had been read; after a moment’s silence the first sob rang out and Ammara’s Idol dream ended. Now the focus turns to the seventh IDOLS spectacular this weekend (Sunday 13 July), where the theme is “Producers’ Choice” – a show which will see the show’s producers and vocal coach decide what the contestants must sing. Contestants will no doubt have their vocal and performance strengths tested as we draw ever nearer to naming Africa’s newest Idol. Printer Friendly Page
