Two Ghanaian Senior High Students will represent the country at the third edition of the Olympic Youth Camp, which will coincide with the Olympic Games in Beijing, China next month.
They are Miss Grace Yawa Ofori of the Kadjebi Asato Senior High School and Master Michael Tinadu of St Peters Senior High School, both General Arts students.
The duo was selected from over 1000 participants nationwide after a vigorous exercise conducted by the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) and the Ghana Education Service (GES) through quiz competitions and interviews on general knowledge about the Olympics.
The Olympic Youth Camp, an initiative of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) was aimed at creating the spirit of ‘Olympism’ among the youth to inspire them to become Olympians in future.
Miss Yawa Ofori and Master Tinadu were on Tuesday presented with their accreditation cards and tickets to participate in the event, which forms part of activities for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.
Dr Deborah Cubagee, Second Vice President of the GOC who made the presentation to the two urged them to exhibit high discipline during the programme and advised them to abstain from activities that will tarnish the image of the nation.
“You will be there as ambassadors of Ghana and you must therefore endeavour to hold the flag of the nation high in all activities”, she stated.
Master Tinadu in an interview with the GNA Sports expressed delight at the opportunity offered him by the GOC and IOC to display his talent and develop his academic laurels.
“I will make the best out of the opportunity offered me and hope to share the knowledge gained with my friends and the youth as a whole on my return”, he said.
