The headteacher of the Asenua District Assembly Junior High School, in the Kwabre District of the Ashanti Region, Agyepong Nsrah, has been demoted for collecting unauthorised levies from his pupils.
He is alleged to have collected GH¢5.00 from each pupil before giving them the desks supplied free of charge by the District Assembly.
Confirming this to the Times on telephone yesterday, the District Director of Education, Rev Joseph Henry Ofosuhene, said the action of the head teacher contravened Ghana Education Service's directives that schools should not collect illegal fees and levies.
Rev Ofosuhene said when Mr Nsrah appeared before the district disciplinary committee, he admitted collecting the money to use it for maintenance.
The committee accordingly recommended the sanction.
He said that Mr Nsrah had on another occasion misappropriated being mock examination fees which he agreed to refund.
