Members of Teachers and Education Workers Union (TEWU) in the polytechnics have suspended a five-day industrial action embarked upon to pave way for negotiation. The government has assured that Polytechnics Rectors would be given the mandate to negotiate new service conditions with teachers. TEWU embarked on the sit-down action on Monday, complaining that members’ condition of service has not been renewed since it expired last year. The leadership of the Union met the rank and file of TEWU yesterday, after a plea by the Labour Commission to call off the strike action. General Secretary of the Union, Daniel Ayim Antwi, told Joy News the Union would resume the strike if government reneged on its promise by 16 September. “Our members have agreed to put the industrial action on hold and wait for government promise to be fulfilled. “Meanwhile, they will keep the red flags flying and keep wearing the red band.”
