M-NET viewers will from Monday, September 1, have a good feel of West Africa when the network begins a new soap opera, Tinsel specially perceived, planned and produced for audiences in the sub-region. .
The good news for Ghanaian viewers is that four of the country's topflight actors and television personalities are among the cast - Akofa Adjeani Asiedu, Juliet Asante, Omar Captan and Christ Attoh will be selling Ghana's fine acting flair to the rest of the world.
M-Net Africa commissioned the soap last year as part of its strategy to create programming for its West African audience. Other shows developed for the market include game show Temptation Nigeria, family drama Edge of Paradise and Idols West Africa.
Tinsel is produced by Nigeria's 341 Media, a TV production company run by Jaiye Ojo, Femi Odugbemi and Lemmy Adebule who have promised to "entertain viewers across Africa for a long time with a compelling storyline of romance, intrigue and passion in a glamorous world."
The soap runs on interesting themes such as power struggle, infidelity and love.
Fred Ade-Williams, the enigmatic founder of Nigeria's biggest independent film company Reel Studios is drawn into a battle of wills with daring newcomer Brenda Nana Mensah (Juliet Asante), whose beauty and intelligence is only surpassed by her drive to transform her film company Odyssey Pictures into a dominant force and she will stop at nothing - the beginning of a power battle.
Reginald, (Omar Captan) the Head of Productions at Reel Studios is a creative genius whose marriage is almost torn apart by his lust for his efficient and beautiful Personal Assistant Angela.
Can a beauty queen find love with a penniless photographer? That is a question viewers may itch to find answers to.
Akofa Adjeani Asiedu shrewdly plays the role of Ivy, an older cousin to John Kwame Mensah (Chris Attoh) and Brenda Nana Mensah (Juliet Asante), whose roles were so expertly handled to tell the world how far acting in Ghana had come.
