The Council of the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) has appointed Prof. Yaw Agyeman Badu as the new rector of the institute, effective December 15, 2008. He takes over from Prof. Stephen Adei who attains the statutory retirement age of 60 on December 14, 2008. Born on January 12, 1952, Prof. Badu attended Asanteman Secondary School from 1964 to 1969. He entered the University of Ghana in 197l and graduated in June, 1974 with combined honours in Economics and Political Science. He obtained a Masters degree in Public Administration and was awarded a Ph. D. in International Relations and Public Administration at the University of South Carolina in the United States in 1975 and 1980 respectively. A statement issued by the institute said Prof. Badu had held various positions in academia, including Deputy Rector and Dean of Academic Affairs at GIMPA, Associate Dean and Professor of Finance at the School of Management at Delaware State University, USA, and Department Chair of the Department of Economics and Finance at Virginia State University in the US. It said he had served on many important boards, committees and programmes of GIMPA, either as chairperson, member or co-ordinator and had also served on a number of public boards and committees. “Prof. Badu has attended many national and international conferences as a participant, facilitator or discussant. As a scholar, Prof. Badu has published extensively in his area of specialisation which include Public Administration, Public Policy, Corporate Governance and Research Methods," the statement said.
