The eighth edition of the annual Joy FM Old Skuuls Reunion held on Saturday at the Ghana International Trade Fair Centre, La, registered the biggest ever attendance.
According to event managers, a conservative estimate of over 150,000 persons turned up to reunite with old pals and reminisce of ‘the good old days’.
The programme this year, had Zain, the global and Ghana’s freshest telecoms operator as the title sponser, along with traditional players Coca-Cola, Guinness and Mypaddies.com, the social network website from the Multimedia Group Limited also on official sponsors list.
Patrons were treated to different live music genres; highlife, hiplife, hip-hop – while various old school associations also entered the Trade Fair grounds with their own traditional and adapted instruments to pump up ‘jama’ and school-based performances.
Highlife musician A.B. Crentsil and a host of hip-life artistes, with star performers STAR Plus of Nigeria, were among the many performers.
The schools competed in many sporting disciplines; five-a-side football, pool, athletics – and the oddities such as ‘gari’ (soakings) eating competitions.
There was also plenty to eat and drink for all, however what was a common feature throughout the all-night-long entertainment shot was the regular sight of long and passionate embrace of joyful old mates, perhaps surprised at how far life has brought them.
