Head of Policy and Partnership at Water Aid, Ibrahim Musah has urged Ghanaian youth to take advantage of the current sanitation crisis in the country to create wealth for themselves.

Speaking on Joy News’ sanitation programme ‘Clean Communities’ he said the youth groups can form formidable youth entrepreneurial groups and meet private sector businesses to access support.

Current sanitation problems have been linked to the staggering levels of Cholera outbreak in the country.

Reports indicate that more than 40 people have been killed by the disease in Accra since June and has infected close to 5000 others.

According to health officials, more males than females have been infected with the disease.

Cholera is an acute diarrhea disease by a bacteria and can result in rapid progressive dehydration, causing discomfort and in some cases death.

Mr. Musah said youth groups can construct toilet slabs and sell it to households to be used as places of convenience which would curb open defecation.

He however lamented over what he says is the youth’s lack of knowledge about policy prescriptions and the inherent opportunities available.

Until that knowledge is acquired, he says the youths will not be in the position to undertake some of these projects.
