Squatters and traders at the Agbogbloshie market have accused the AMA of shirking its responsibility to clear the area of filth.
They said it was not their duty to clear the area and because they paid daily tolls to the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA), it should be responsible to carry out such exercise.
Joy News’ Michaela Anderson reported, the environment is unkempt and smelly as a result of dumping garbage in the gutters around the market.
The cholera outbreak has been rampant in that part of Accra, affecting both the young and the old.
Recorded cholera cases in the Greater Accra region alone have inched to about 6,000 with health authorities cautioning that there would be more cases and deaths if care is not taken.
According to Dr. Van-Otoo, who spoke on the Joy Midday News last Friday, some 200 to 300 cholera cases are recorded each day in Accra.
Linda Van-Otoo blamed the ceaseless cholera cases recorded at the various infirmaries to the rains, which she noted contaminate drinking water and foods with faecal matter.
