Pupils and parents of Have- Aveyoyoe in the Afadjato District of the Volta region are beaming with smiles over the construction of a three-unit classroom block for the community by a charity organization, Pencils of Promise.
The cost of the structure is Ghȼ130,000, out of which the District Assembly and the community bore 20 per cent.
Before the construction of the classroom block, pupils and their teachers went to school in dilapidated mud structures and under trees for years, a situation described as a harrowing experience.
However, their story has changed for the better as Pencils of Promise heeded to their call for support and put up the classroom block for the community.

The three-unit classroom block
The classroom block comes with a headmaster’s office, a store room as well as urinal and toilet facilities.
According to the Country Director of Pencils of Promise, Freeman Goba, the gesture formed part of the organization’s contribution towards education delivery in the Volta region.
It has so far constructed similar structures in 53 schools throughout the region within two years of its operations in Ghana.
At a ceremony to commission the project, the District Chief Executive of Afadzato South, Angela Alorwu-Tay expressed her appreciation to the charity organization for responding positively to the call of the Assembly.
The Assemblyman of the area, Paul Kpai also appealed to Pencils of Promise and other benevolent organizations to help erect another three-unit classroom block for the rest of the primary schools in the area.
The people of Have-Aveyoyoe, who are predominantly farmers and fisher folks expressed their gratitude to Pencils of Promise for the kind gesture and promised to put the facility to good use.
