The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in collaboration with the French Embassy on Saturday held a forum to highlight the opportunities that Ghanaian students stand to gain by furthering their education in France. Topics discussed at the forum dubbed; “Information Day,” included immigration issues, climatic conditions in France and cultural differences. Representatives from 14 educational institutions from France and Sub-Saharan Africa presented the programmes offered by their respective institutions. Professor Kwasi Kwafo Adarkwah, Vice-Chancellor of the KNUST said the programme formed part of activities aimed at promoting co-operation and collaboration between France and Ghana on the academic front. He said post-graduate education had assumed strategic developmental importance and as such countries were gradually shifting emphasis onto graduate education. “Unfortunately, as a result of limited facilities our tertiary institutions were unable to adequately provide the needed platform in terms of the quantity for the masses of people who would want to seek graduate education,” he said. Prof. Adarkwah said it was therefore a good idea that institutions abroad had been coming to Ghana to hold Information Days to throw light on the various opportunities that were available to prospective students. Mr Arnaud Dornon, Head of Co-operation and Cultural Affairs at the French Embassy said the forum would deepen the existing bilateral relations between Ghana and France. He said there were many opportunities for Ghanaian students to study in France in upgrading their skills and knowledge. Mr Dornon said there were thousands of African students pursuing their education in France and that this made his country one of the best destinations for foreign students in the world. Source: GNA
